Privacy notice

This explains how Bike Connectors (Pty) Ltd, trading as Bike Connectors (registration number 2026/854485/07), uses your personal information when you visit this website or apply for a bike, as the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) requires. Questions or requests: [email protected].
What we collect, and why
- When you apply: your name, WhatsApp number, ID, passport or permit number, a selfie, the barcode on your driver's licence, your bank account details, proof of address, statements and, if you send one, a delivery-app screenshot. We use them to confirm who you are, that you may ride a motorbike, that the bank account is yours, and that the payments are affordable, before we sell you a bike. The National Credit Act requires us to check that the payments are affordable. We also need to know who has each bike for traffic fines.
- The bike: once you have a bike, its tracker location, handover and service records, your payments and our messages with you, to run your account, recover the bike if needed, deal with fines, accidents and insurance claims, and answer complaints.
- This website: which pages are visited, and the kind of device used. The cost calculator runs on your phone and we do not store what you type into it.
Your selfie is biometric information. We compare it with your ID photo and check that it shows a real person, only with your consent, and we don't keep it. We do not ask for your race, religion, health or criminal record.
Who we share it with
- VerifyNow, a South African verification company that checks your details with the Department of Home Affairs and the banks for us.
- Credit bureaus, for the affordability check.
- Cloudflare, which runs this website and our application system, and Google, which runs our email. Some of your information may be stored on their servers outside South Africa. An AI assistant helps us sort and answer the messages you send us.
- Your bank, to collect the weekly debit order.
- Our insurer and tracker company, for cover, claims and recovering the bike.
- Traffic authorities, to name the rider for fines and to register the bike in your name.
- Regulators, the police, our attorneys and auditors, where the law requires it or a bike is stolen or not returned.
We never sell your information. A person at Bike Connectors looks at any check that does not pass: we never turn you down by computer alone.
How long we keep it
- Photos of a passport or permit, your statements and any delivery-app screenshot: deleted 30 days after we decide.
- If we turn you down: everything is deleted 90 days after we tell you.
- If you don't finish your application: everything is deleted 90 days after your private link runs out.
- If your checks pass, we keep their results, even if you then decide not to go ahead. You can ask us to delete them.
- If you become a rider, we keep your agreement, payment and credit records for as long as the law requires after the agreement ends.
Visitor counts and ads
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and doesn't identify you. We also use Google Analytics, which uses cookies to tell visits apart and shows us how people move through the site, and whether they started an application. Google doesn't get your name, number, ID or documents, and nothing on your private application page is sent to it. You can block cookies in your browser; the website and the application still work.
How we protect it
Only staff who need your information can see it, behind password-protected access. If your information is lost or stolen, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as the law requires.
Your rights
You may ask what we hold about you and get a copy, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, and withdraw consent you gave. Email [email protected] or WhatsApp 072 087 4776. If we haven't sorted it out, you may complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za. Our complaints procedure explains how we handle complaints.
